The seminar / inaugural lecture by Professor Diogo Mendes, who was recently hired as an Assistant Professor at IST/DECivil in the Scientific Area of Hydraulics, Environment and Water Resources and who is also a member of CERIS, took place on November 30, 2023. The seminar focused on Diogo Mendes’ work between 2016 and 2023, including an introduction to IG waves and an explanation of their importance at the sea-land interface. The case study of Albufeira Lagoon where field observations have been collected before, during and after Hurricane Leslie was presented. From a practical perspective, the field monitoring program associated with a beach nourishment intervention at Costa Nova (Aveiro) and also the detailed design project for Barinha de Esmoriz were discussed.
