On November 22, Thematic Strand 4 of CERIS (Response to natural and societal changes) promoted a webinar about the “Decarbonisation of built environments, from challenges to opportunities”. Professor Manuel D. Pinheiro acted as the moderator of the session, which involved researchers from CERIS, CiTUA, and the CERIS Coimbra and CERIS Nova Hubs. The webinar was attended by a consistent group of people interested in these topics, having the opportunity to participate in the final debate.
Professor Filipa Ferreira (CERIS Vice-President, IST) welcomed the initiative and introduced CERIS, as well as some contributions of the Hydraulics Research Group towards the decarbonisation of the water sector, namely through hydro energy recovery. Researcher Clara Pereira (CERIS, IST) briefly presented the research trends around the topic “Decarbonisation” and “Decarbonisation in the built environment”. Professor Miguel Amado (CiTUA, IST) presented his research and views about the energy transformation of cities. Professor Manuel D. Pinheiro (CERIS, IST) presented the current trends of decarbonisation in the built environments. Researcher Márcio Gonçalves (CERIS Coimbra Hub, Itecons) presented the perspective of the performance of the building stock, specifically referring to the air permeability of buildings. Finally, Professor Paulina Faria (CERIS Nova Hub, NOVA School of Science & Technology) presented the perspective of her research regarding the importance of materials, in this case, the contribution of rammed earth as a building material.
