CERIS will host a Pizza Seminar titled “Taut Structures and Where to Find Them” by Prof. Ruy Marcelo de Oliveira Pauletti (Full Professor in Structural Systems, Department of Structural Engineering and Geotechnics, Polytechnic School of the University of São Paulo, Brazil). In this seminar, Prof. Pauletti will focus on the following topics about light, taut and flexible structures: the process of design of taut structures; equilibrium of cables and membranes; hints on differential geometry; geometric nonlinearity; numerical methods; some simple finite elements; pneumatics; wrinkling models; natural force density method; some applications on membrane structures; extension to flexible formworks for shell structures .
This seminar is promoted by CERIS’ Thematic Strand (TS) 2 “Risk and safety in natural and built environments” and TS3 “Rehabilitation of built and natural environments”.
The Pizza Seminar will take place on November 15, 2023, at 12 p.m., in the DECivil Museum (Civil Engineering Building, ground floor). You can also attend online (Zoom link).
