Three CERIS Researchers Honoured with ULisboa/CGD Scientific Awards 2026

Cristina Matos Silva, Maria da Glória Gomes, and Rui Vasco Silva have been distinguished at the ULisboa/CGD Scientific Awards 2026, a prestigious initiative that recognises the excellence and impact of scientific research carried out within the University of Lisbon.

The ULisboa/CGD Scientific Awards are organised annually by the University of Lisbon (ULisboa) in partnership with Caixa Geral de Depósitos (CGD). The awards aim to recognise outstanding scientific research and encourage the publication of high-quality, high-impact international research. Each year, one Scientific Award and up to two Honourable Mentions are attributed in each scientific field, acknowledging researchers with exceptional scientific productivity and contribution to knowledge.

In the 2026 edition, 57 Scientific Awards and Honourable Mentions were presented to researchers and academics from different schools of the University of Lisbon, recognising the quality and impact of their scientific achievements.

Among the distinguished researchers were three members of the CERIS community:

• Professor Cristina Matos Silva received the ULisboa/CGD Scientific Award in the field of Civil Engineering, recognising the excellence and impact of her scientific contributions;
• Professor Maria da Glória Gomes received the ULisboa/CGD Scientific Award in the field of Environmental and Energy Engineering, acknowledging her outstanding research achievements and international scientific impact;
• Professor Rui Vasco Silva was awarded an Honourable Mention in the field of Civil Engineering, recognising the quality and significance of his research contributions.

The awards were presented during the ULisboa/CGD Scientific Awards Ceremony, held on 16 June 2026 at the Portugal Pavilion Congress Centre in Lisbon. The ceremony brought together the academic community to celebrate scientific excellence and was attended by representatives of the University of Lisbon and Caixa Geral de Depósitos, including ULisboa Rector Luís Ferreira and CGD Executive Board Member Luís Pereira Coutinho. The event also marked the closing of the ULisboa Scientific Days 2026, dedicated to the theme "Scientific Cooperation in a Changing World".
