CERIS Member Professor Eduardo Júlio Elected Deputy Chair of the fib Technical Council

At the Technical Council meeting of the International Federation for Structural Concrete (fib), held in Lisbon on 13 June 2026, CERIS member and Professor at DECivil Eduardo Júlio, CERIS  was elected Deputy Chair of the Federation's Technical Council (TC) for the next term of office.

The Technical Council is fib's principal technical body, responsible for coordinating the scientific and technical activities carried out within the fib Commissions and Special Activity Groups. These activities are reflected primarily in the publication of fib bulletins, technical reference documents and pre-standardisation documents, such as the fib Model Code.

Following this election, Professor Eduardo Júlio will also join the fib Presidium, the Federation's governing body, which is responsible for defining its strategic direction and overseeing its principal institutional activities.

This election represents an important milestone for Portuguese Civil Engineering, particularly for the Structural Concrete community, as it marks the first time that a Portuguese citizen has held the position of Deputy Chair of the Technical Council and served on the fib Presidium.

According to Professor Eduardo Júlio, "the recognition now achieved reflects the growing prestige and international standing of the Portuguese Group for Structural Concrete (GPBE), the national fib group, as well as the contribution that Portuguese researchers and structural designers have been making for many years to the technical and scientific development of reinforced and prestressed concrete structures."

Founded in 1998, fib is the leading international organisation dedicated to advancing knowledge in structural concrete, operating under the motto "a bridge between research and practice".

Professor Eduardo Júlio has been a Full Professor at the Instituto Superior Técnico of the University of Lisbon since 2011 and President of the Portuguese Group for Structural Concrete since 2019.

CERIS warmly congratulates Professor Eduardo Júlio on this distinguished achievement. His election as Deputy Chair of the fib Technical Council is a well-deserved recognition of his outstanding contributions to structural concrete research and engineering and a source of pride for both CERIS and the Portuguese civil engineering community.
