On 17 April 2026, CERIS hosted a seminar by Professor Gisleiva C. S. Ferreira, from the Faculty of Technology of the University of Campinas (UNICAMP), Brazil.
The seminar, titled “Challenges for Sustainable Civil Construction: Use of Industrial Waste in Cementitious Materials and Low-Carbon Characterisation Technologies”, explored recent research developments related to the incorporation of industrial residues into construction materials and the advancement of more sustainable and low-carbon solutions for the construction sector.
During the session, Professor Gisleiva presented ongoing research on the use of industrial by-products — including slags, biomass ashes, foundry sands, and construction and demolition waste — in cementitious and alkali-activated materials.
The event brought together members of the CERIS and IST communities, promoting discussion and knowledge exchange on current challenges and opportunities in sustainable construction and materials engineering.
CERIS warmly thanks Professor Gisleiva Ferreira for her insightful presentation and valuable contribution, and also acknowledges the participation of all members of the community who joined and enriched the discussion throughout the seminar.
