On September 24, 2025, CERIS community came together for its annual Day Out, a vibrant gathering that combined science, collaboration, and team spirit in the beautiful city of Aveiro.
For those from outside Aveiro, the day began with an early trip. As people arrived at the venue, there was a warm welcome at the Department of Civil Engineering of the University of Aveiro. The programme opened with an inspiring talk by João Mano, researcher and vice-director of CICECO, who shared his reflections in “Growing as a Researcher – Struggles and Opportunities”. His insights resonated strongly with the audience, highlighting both the challenges and the rewarding journey of a scientific career.
The morning continued with “The Collaboration Catalyst”, a dynamic activity designed to strengthen connections across CERIS. After a lively lunch break, where the community had a chance to engage in longer conversations, participants immersed themselves in the “Mystery in Aveiro” team-building adventure, which transformed the city into a stage for problem-solving, creativity, and teamwork.
The event closed back at the University of Aveiro campus, leaving participants energised, more connected, and with a renewed sense of belonging to the CERIS network.
The success of CERIS Day Out 2025 was made possible thanks to the open-hearted participation of CERIS researchers and to the dedication of the organising committee — Ana Soares Ramos, António Figueiredo, Carlos Couto, Clara Pereira, Ela Hamadyk, Evelyne Moura, Neusa Lima, Romeu Vicente, and Victor Ferreira — whose efforts ensured a memorable and meaningful day for all.
Everyone is looking forward to the next opportunity to come together and continue building bridges across CERIS!
