Giovanna Schäfer Bartels, PhD candidate at CERIS, received the Best PhD Presentation Award at the Sustainable Built Environment Conference (SBE25 WestMED), held in Seville, Spain, from October 22 to 24, 2025.
The award distinguishes outstanding research quality, clarity of communication, and contribution to advancing sustainability in the built environment. The winning presentation, titled “Integrating Embodied Carbon Data into Retrofit Decision-Making: A Methodological Approach for Building Decarbonization”, was co-authored by Giovanna Schäfer Bartels (CERIS PhD candidate), Miguel Martinho, Inês Flores-Colen (CERIS member), José Dinis Silvestre (CERIS member), Ricardo Gomes, and Joana Fernandes.
This recognition highlights the excellence and impact of CERIS research in the field of building sustainability and decarbonisation.
