LVCT supports the teaching, research and technology transfer activities related to road and airport pavements, railway tracks and traffic evaluation. Quality control of soil, aggregates, binders, bituminous and hydraulic mixtures as well as development and technological validation of new materials is the core of the activities in laboratory environment. Adding to this the non-destructive mechanical evaluation of pavement networks as support of maintenance management systems developed or supported by the research group is other LVCT main activity.

MAIN EQUIPMENT

COMPOSITION AND CHARACTERIZATION OF GRANULAR AND BITUMINOUS MATERIALS

Equipment and accessories to properties evaluation of aggregates, bitumen and bituminous mixtures.

BEARING CAPACITY OF ROAD AND AIRFIELD PAVEMENTS

Equipment of non-destructive tests to in-situ bearing capacity evaluation of pavement structures.

TESTING AND PERFORMANCE VALIDATION OF PAVEMENT MATERIALS

Equipment and accessories to laboratory evaluation of mechanical performance of materials: fatigue, strength, moisture sensitivity, rutting, etc.

FRICTION AND ROUGHNESS CHARACTERIZATION OF PAVEMENTS SURFACE

Equipment of non-destructive tests to in-situ evaluation of friction and roughness of pavements surface.

  • Laboratory and field tests for maintenance and rehabilitation of transport infrastructures (Portugal, Africa, South America and Orient Medium)
  • Tests for pavement management systems of airfield infrastructures (Portugal: ANA)
  • Tests for pavement quality control of highway networks (Portugal: ASCENDI)
