Seminar “Towards Green Composite Structures: Innovative FRP Joints and Sustainable Structural Optimization”

CERIS is pleased to host a seminar by Professor Francesco Ascione, Associate Professor of Structural Mechanics at the University of Salerno, Italy. His research focuses on the experimental and numerical characterisation of fibre-reinforced polymer (FRP) systems and composite structures, with particular emphasis on durability, sustainability, and interface behaviour. He is actively involved in international research collaborations and scientific committees in the field of advanced materials and structural engineering.
In this seminar, Professor Ascione will present recent advances in the structural application of FRP, addressing both connection design and system-level optimisation. The session will introduce an innovative ductile hybrid connection for FRP structures, designed to enhance performance and overcome the limitations of traditional solutions. It will also explore optimisation strategies for curved reinforced concrete structures using FRP reinforcement, highlighting approaches to reduce embodied carbon while maintaining structural efficiency.
The seminar offers an integrated perspective on how material innovation and advanced design methods can contribute to more sustainable and resilient structural solutions.
