Seminar “From Masonry Mechanics to Architected Materials: A Rigid-Body–Spring Modelling Framework”
March 12 @ 12:00 pm - 1:30 pm UTC+0

Luís C. Silva, Assistant Professor of Structural Mechanics at Politecnico di Milano, will present innovative approaches to understanding and designing advanced materials. His research focuses on numerical modelling techniques that help predict how composite materials and complex structures behave under different loading conditions.
In this seminar, he will introduce a rigid-body-spring modelling approach and demonstrate how it can be applied across different scales — from traditional masonry structures to the development of cutting-edge metamaterials. The talk will show how these tools can support the design of materials with tailored mechanical properties, including auxetic and ultra-soft materials produced through additive manufacturing.
