OPEN DAY of the HY4RES project

April 8 @ 11:30 am - 4:00 pm UTC+0

Developing Hybrid Systems for Renewable Energy in Energy Communities: strengthening local energy resilience

On 8 April, an Open Day event of the HY4RES project will take place.

During the event, the Pilot Installation in Portugal will be inaugurated in Paredes, on the Sousa River, at Moinho do Salto. This initiative demonstrates how historical and cultural heritage can be revitalised through cutting-edge technology, by transforming an old watermill into a micro-hydropower and hybrid energy solution for a small community.

The project aims to maximise energy efficiency while preserving heritage and promoting sustainability. It also supports the decentralisation of energy production through microgeneration, enhances energy independence, and contributes to reducing both costs and carbon footprint.

The event is part of the European Sustainable Energy Days 2026, promoted by EUSEW2026

Professor Helena Ramos is one of the coordinators, representing CERIS and IST.

Registration is free but mandatory. Please register HERE

The Project

The objective of the European HY4RES project, which has €2.4 million in funding from the ERDF, is to increase the penetration of renewable energies in the Atlantic Area (AA), through the development and demonstration of low-cost hybrid renewable energy systems by balancing the variable availability of wind, solar and hydro energy.

The project contributes to the specific objective of energy transition and decarbonization, promoting energy efficiency and reducing greenhouse gas emissions in the community energy, agriculture, aquaculture and port sectors. The HY4RES Project includes 4 EU countries (Ireland, Portugal, Spain and France) where four Pilot Plants are being developed in the aforementioned areas.

There are nine project partners, namely: Trinity College Dublin (Ireland), University of Córdoba (Spain), University of Oviedo (Spain), Técnico – University of Lisbon (Portugal), Vertigo Lab (France), Ig Energy (Portugal), AC3A (France), Feragua (Spain) and EasyHydro (Ireland).
