Exploring the Complexity of Changing Urban Space: Inaugural Lecture by Professor Gabriel Valença

On 16 January 2026, the Department of Civil Engineering, Architecture and Environment (DECivil) hosted the inaugural lecture of Professor Gabriel Costa Valença, entitled "The Complexity of Changing Urban Space."

The session brought together members of the DECivil and CERIS communities, who attended the lecture and reflected on the challenges of transforming urban environments. In his presentation, Professor Gabriel Valença explored the complexity of contemporary urban change, highlighting the multiple social, spatial and environmental dimensions that shape the evolution of cities.

The lecture provided an important opportunity to highlight Professor Gabriel Valença’s research trajectory and academic work, while fostering discussion within the department and the research community.
