Luis Angel Espinosa Villalpando
Researcher
Dr Luis Angel Espinosa is a Doctorate Initial Level Researcher at the Faculty of Engineering, University of Porto (FEUP), Portugal, working on the RISC_PLUS project. His research focuses on climate change impacts on water resources, particularly extreme hydrometeorological events. Dr Espinosa holds a PhD in Civil Engineering (Hydraulics and Water Resources) from Instituto Superior Técnico, Universidade de Lisboa. His expertise encompasses advanced statistical methods for climate and hydrological analysis, including Extreme Value Theory, trend detection, and copula-based modelling. He has extensive experience processing large-scale geospatial datasets using R, Python, GIS tools, and Copernicus Earth Observation products.
Previously, Dr Espinosa served as a Postdoctoral Fellow at IST-ID (2021-2025), contributing to the EU Horizon 2020 SCORE project on climate resilience in European coastal cities. He has published in peer-reviewed journals including Water Resources Management and Journal of Hydrology: Regional Studies.
