In the context of hydraulic engineering, there is currently only fragmentary design information available on the driftwood behaviour at hydraulic structures like spillway inlets. Literature provides knowledge on the effect of driftwood at bridges and other hydraulic structures.

The present research project aims to understand the effect of driftwood in the hydraulic features of inlets spillways, considering particularly the rating curve. Therefore, a probabilistic analysis of blockage will define up to which point the volume of driftwood and its characteristics are relevant. This analysis is made by reproducing the phenomena in a laboratory facility.
